Plot summary: Kurosaki Ichigo, an orange-haired boy, is 15 years old and has the innate ability to see ghosts or spirits. On a fateful day, he meets a female death god, named Kuchiki Rukia that is sent to the human world to kill Hollows, evil beings that feed on human souls. When his family is attacked by a Hollow, Ichigo makes a pact with Rukia to become a Shinigami and fight back the Hollow. Because Rukia is injured and cannot fight, she transfers her powers to Ichigo who surpasses her estimations and drains her from all her powers, transforming her into a wondering soul. After Ichigo manages to kill the Hollow, Rukia remains in the human world with the help of Urahara, a former death god, which brings her a body to live in. Rukia joins Ichigo's classmates and starts to train and help Ichigo deal with spirits and Hollows. After spending time together, two other shinigamis appear and force Rukia back to Soul Society, the spirit world, where she must be punished for relinquishing powers to a human - a punish consisting of the death penalty. Ichigo swears to rescue her, so he and his friends, Sado, Inoue and Ishida, enter tough training to break through Soul Society and rescue their friend before it's too late.
