Plot summary:  The action is set in the year 2071, when mankind has spread far into the stars. This was possible thanks to the Hyper-Space gates that also provided the colonization of the entire solar system in little over a century. But altough set in the future the background of the anime is developed as in the Wild Wild West, where law and authority are completely relative to local habits and forces. Crime is something ordinary, and bounty hunters are more relied upon than the organized police force. One of the normal figures here is the Cowboy, pictured by reformed gangster Spike Spiegal and ex-cop Jet Black. The two of them try to earn a living in an uncertain present and despite being experienced with handling criminals, they always miss the actual bounty. They are helped by the gambling addic Faye Valentine, data dog Ed and hacker Ed. Although the crew is mostly left empty handed, they cruise in their ship, The Bepop, through the solar system, running from the past, just wanting to get by each day...
