MIRAMAX closes its L.A. and New York offices. Is this The End?

January 29, 2010

After 3 decades of activity, this week, on Thursday, Disney has closed the Miramax offices in New York and Los Angeles. The situation of the eighty employees and six remaining movies, including “The Debt and Last Night”, starring Keira Knightley, is still unclear.

Miramax Films was founded in 1979 by brothers Bob and Harvey Weinstein, and in 1993 was bought by Disney. A major movie industry player in the 90's, Miramax has helped launch the careers of Quentino Tarantino, Jane Campion and Errol Morris, and has enchanted us with Oscar winning films, such as: “The English Patient”, “Shakespeare in Love”, “Pulp Fiction”, and many others.

Ending on an optimistic note, Harvey Weinstein declared that: "I know the movies made on my and my brother Bob's watch will live on … Miramax has some brilliant people working within the organization and I know they will go on to do great things in the industry."
