The Smurfs are back!

 After three decades of silence, it seems that the beloved blue creatures of the 80’s, The Smurfs, are preparing a comeback on the big screen, on July 2011, as a live-action / CGI animated fantasy film. The movie will be directed by Rajna Gosnell, known for “Home Alone 3”,”Never Been Kissed” (starring Drew Barrymore); “Scooby-Doo 1 and 2”, and will be distributed by Columbia Pictures. So, it seems this will be the first movie from a trilogy of live-action / CGI smurfy films and the first Sony Picture Animation film which will include the live action technique.
The good news is that “The Smurfs” is now in pre-production stage, but the bad news is that there is no real information about the plot of the movie.
Created by the Belgian cartoonist Peyo (in its real name Pierre Culliford) in 1958, The Smurfs have rapidly grown in popularity when Hanna-Barbera Productions adapted the comic strips into a television series for kids, becoming the blue symbol of an entire generation of children.
