Date Night – Movie Review
Director: Shawn Levy
Cast: Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Mark Wahlberg, William Fichtner
Genre: Comedy / Romance
Runtime: 88 minutes
Even if you are dating or not this is a perfect movie if you want to have a few giggles with friends, in every night of the week. The best two reasons to go and see this movie are: Tina Fey and Steve Carell, who make the perfect couple onscreen.
The plot of the movie evolves around a typical American couple, Phil and Claire Foster, with two kids, jobs and a house to maintain, who find themselves stuck into a rut and too tired to revive their marriage. Although they try every week to go on a date at a restaurant, they still can't succeed to pass over the dull conversations about their "neighbors".
After hearing that their friends are planning a divorce because they are just "good roommates" Tina and Steve (alias Phil and Claire) decide to go out at a fancy restaurant in the city, New York of course. Not being able to find a free table they take the reservation of another couple who doesn't show up. From that point on everything will go wild: they are threatened by two corrupt detectives, they'll be involved in car chasing, blackmailing a corrupt politician, breaking an entry, and other more, which will make you stay alert during the entire movie.
I have to admit that although the plot is not very unique and abounds in clichés, being very similar to "The Out of Towners", the movie is revived by the splendid acting and lines of the two protagonists Tina Fey and Steve Carell. It's the first time that the two of them play together, and I can only hope that it's going to be a second movie. Who knows maybe a sequel?!
In the movie also star: Mark Wahlberg as Holbrooke (an Israeli secret agent…or something like that), Taraji P. Henson as Detective Arroyo and William Fichtner as DA Frank Crenshaw (the corrupted politician).
"Date Night" is an ordinary movie, with an ordinary plot of mistaken identity, about and ordinary suburbs couple. What makes this movie to be worth seeing apart from the two leading actors is the spontaneity of the actions which really gives you the impression that something like that might happen to you too.
So, if you are of fan of Tina Fey or Steve Carell, or just want to have a good laugh, then "Date Night" is the perfect choice.
