Sex and the City 2 - Movie Review

Director: Michael Patrick King
Cast: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall, Liza Minnelli, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler
Genre: Comedy/Romance
Runtime: 146 min

The years have passed, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is married to Mr. Big (Chris Noth) for two years, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) has the family she always wanted, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is the hard working mom as always, and as for Samantha, I have to admit that almost nothing has changed.

So until now it seems that the New York fashionistas are doing just fine, they have all they ever wanted: the men, the jobs, the designer outfits and of course, the shoes! In a time when everybody is cutting costs, our four gal pals seem like they haven't been touched by the financial crisis. They still have the amazing apartments (with walk-in wardrobes), the outrageous outfits and everything else that screams opulence and luxury.

But wait a minute, things are not so pink: Carrie has a midwife crisis when her beloved husband prefers to stay at home instead of going out to dinner and cocktails, and she starts missing her single life. Miranda is dealing with a horrible boss, hates her job (that's a first) and feels that she is missing a lot of her son's life. Charlotte is dealing with two spoiled girls and has doubts regarding her motherhood skills. As for Samantha, now 52, she is battling with the menopause and of course, she is still chasing men.

The solution to midlife crisis: a get away trip just for the girls in “the new Middle East" the luxurious Abu Dhabi with all expenses payed by a wealthy sheik who wants to hire Samantha to do the hotel's PR. If you think that nothing can't be more fabulous and glamorous than this, wait a second. After a flight in the sheik's private jet, the New Yorkers are waited at the airport not by one, but by four white limos, which take them to the hotel where they'll be staying in the Jewel Suite (a suite with a price tag of $22000 per night).

Everything is alright, the girls have fun at the pool, go on a trip to the desert and ride the camels, until Samantha decides to be Samantha and not take in consideration the Arabian traditions and rules. Unfortunately for Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte, but fortunately for us, Samantha gets arrested for "inappropriate behavior with a gentlemen" on the beach. After bailing her out, the girls find out that if they want to continue their vacation, they have to pay the expenses: a $22000 bill per night! From this point on starts the funniest part of the movie. Spoiler Alert! The girls are chased by an angry Muslim crowd.

The biggest surprise of the Abu Dhabi get away is the encounter of Carrie with her old boyfriend, Aidan (John Corbett), which brings dramatic tension after the two of them kiss (I've expected a lot more than a kiss). Carrie feels the urge to tell Big about this kiss and their relationship faces a turning point. Spoiler Alert! Relax...everything turns out just fine for the golden couple. Big puts a diamond ring on Carrie's finger, so she never forgets that she is a married woman now.

Pretty much this is it: not so much sex or the city, instead we have glamorous places and clothes, some good jokes and hilarious situations. And now I am stopping, as I don't want to get into more details and spoil your expectations.
