Toy Story 3 - Movie Review

Director: Lee Unkrich
Cast: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, John Cusack, Ned Beatty, Michael Keaton
Gender: Comedy/Animation
Runtime: 103 min

After almost 11 years of waiting, Pixar Studios has released the third installment of one of the most loved animation of all time: “Toy Story”. Chances are that back in '95, when the first “Toy Story” movie came out you were just a kid, so it may has passed a little too much time, but the waiting for sure was worth it. This third part revives the story of Buzz and Woody and the rest of the gang, offering kids of today and not only, a really good time.

This time the plot starts with Andy who prepares to leave for college and he has to say goodbye to all his dear friends. Urged by his mother to sort the toys he wants to keep in the attic and the ones he wants to give away to the a daycare center, Andy's favorite toys end up by mistake on the way to the “Sunnyside Daycare”. So, here starts the fun!

At the daycare Andy's toys are welcomed by a crowd of happy toys led by a purple bear called
Lots-O'-Huggin' Bear (alias Lotso), which will try to convince Buzz, Woody and the others that Sunnyside is a great place for a toy. If the gang gets enthusiastic at the idea that kids are going to play with them, Woody remains skeptic about the true nature of that place, and tries to persuade them that they should return to Andy. Failing in doing so, he leaves Sunnyside, leaving all his friends behind.

As you've probably figure out, Sunnyside is not the idyllic place for toys, and Buzz, Potato Head and the rest end up being tortured by kids who are too small to play with them. Trying to protect the gang, Buzz asks Lots to assign them to older children, but ends up being reset to the original settings. In the mean time, Woody is taken by a little girl from the daycare, named Bonnie, and finds out from her toys the truth about Lotso. Woody returns to save his friends, and together they save the toys from Sunnyside. Regarding Lotso, he'll end up...I'm not going to spoil this one for you, so you'd better go directly to a theater and see the movie.

The ending, although it's not a surprise, would bring to tears even the toughest of us. Andy plays one last time with his toys before going to college and then he gives them to Bonnie.

To our delight, the voices of the main characters remain unchanged: Tom Hanks gives voice to Wood, Tim Allen to Buzz, to Jessie, and adds up Ned Beatty as Lotso and Michael Keaton as the “irresistible” Ken. Some things have changed, this time the director of the movie is Lee Unkrich.

"Toy Story 3" is probably the last installment of the serie, and I have to admit that's also the most emotional of all. It has a well structures plot, funny moments for both kids and grownups, and last but definetly not least, it has feelings, succeeding to transmit a mix of emotions.
