Spotted: BlackBerry “inPulse” watch

October 20, 2009

First things first: the inPulse watch is not designed by or especially for RIM BlackBerry, meaning that it will not be branded with an official BlackBerry logo, but it is indeed made to work with the BlackBerry smartphones. It currently helds exclusivity in this rather quirky area, since there are no other mobile phone-watch symbiots out there. But who knows what Christmas brings, right?

According to crackberry.com, the watch is a certain deal and will be announced pretty soon. Some central features of the watch are:

 - developed specifically to be used with BlackBerry smartphones by a new BlackBerry-oriented third party company
 - it will feature an OLED display that is “big, bright and beautiful”, and which will display clear text, with a solid battery life
 - it will display notifications and message previews for SMS received on the BlackBerry

Of course, the watch will not replace the actual BlackBerry phone in terms of viewing messages. It will just be a neat device that can offer users a quick glimpse of new messages, while busy doing something else (driving, riding a bike, in a meeting etc.). The users can decide if it's worth stopping and pick up the phone right away after looking at the inPulse watch, or wait until they are done with their business. Rumors have it that maybe sometime later even third-party apps can send notifications to the inPulse watch so they too can be displayed.
