Motorola Droid hits the stores! Should Apple be afraid?
November 6, 2009
It's finally Friday, and this means (apart from the fact that weekend is near :)) that the new smartphone by Motorola is in stores. Motorola Droid is an Android based smartphone and the newest competitor of iPhone. With a 5 megapixel camera, a storage capacity up to 32 MB (with expendable microSD), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and both a QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen, the Android 2.0 slider smartphone gives the users an alternative to the existing touchscreen phones. Although in terms of looks, Droid doesn't surpass the glossy, elegant iPhone, it catches our attention with multitasking ability and access to turn-by-turn Google Maps navigation.
Motorola Droid comes with a $200 price and a 2 year contract with Verizon, and runs, of course, on the Verizon Wireless network. Speaking of Verizon, this reminds me of the “Perfect Match: Verizon Wireless + Google“ news, released almost one month ago, announcing that the two giants came to an agreement to produce Android based mobile devices.
So, it seems that the Google + Verizon vs. Apple + AT&T confrontation has already started, and although Droid may not be an iPhone slayer, it's only the first member of the future Android family. Does anyone want to abort ship?
