Garmin Free “Custom Maps” app is here!
November 20, 2009
Starting this Wednesday, Garmin makes available a new Free application that allows users to load both paper and digital maps on certain Garmin navigation-devices. The “Custom Maps” application wants to fill in the gaps when there is no handheld mapping product available.
The user will have to save the existing map in JPEG format (after scanning them - in the case of paper maps, or converting them (as a JPEG) – in the case of electronic maps), to position the map’s global location with the help of Google Earth and to save the resulted map to a compatible device (Dakota, Oregon, Colorado). Note! That a Free software must be installed on the device prior to downloading the custom map.
It doesn’t sound too complicated and it can really be useful when you are preparing for the next hiking trip!
