Adobe enters the e-readers war. Kindle not happy!

December 12, 2009

It seems that Kindle's Christmas joy is overshadowed by Adobe's announcement, on Wednesday, which claims that over 100 publishers, libraries and book retailers are using Adobe's Content Server 4 software, which means more e-books delivered via the PDF and ePub formats. But the announcements don't stop only at that, and according to Nick Bogaty, senior manager for digital publishing at Adobe, 30 e-readers depend on the Adobe software, among which are Nook and Sony Readers.

And while Kindle still ignores the ePub format, Sony hopes that in the future, the users will be able to buy e-books from whatever store they want, and transfer them from e-readers to PCs and to other users, having in this way more alternatives.

So, it seems this might just be the last happy Christmas for Kindle, if Amazon doesn't revise its policy and doesn't adopt the ePub format, because in the end two things matter: price and alternatives.
