The thrill! The excitement! The Apple Tablet is here!
January 5, 2010
January 26th is the set date for the launching of the new multimedia device from Apple that we've all been waiting for since last year. It's suppose to revolutionize the media sphere with it's super slick design, wide screen, touch interface and super interactive user interface.
A lot of names have been designated for the wonder device, but the most commonly used one is the iSlate. An inside peek revealed this Monday by the Wall Street Journal stated that Apple will be ready to launch the device this month and already ship it starting with March.
The same magazine notes the possibility of two different “material finishes” for the gadget, but it's not sure if the different finishes are add-ons for the final device or extra options, or if they are just prototype designs, meant to distract any intruders from the real deal.
The only widely known technical details regarding the Apple tablet are the screen width of somewhere between 10 and 11 inches, the color and touch interface, multimedia capacity and Internet connection. Such a multimedia tablet could mean the next step forward for the reading industry, which is already changing with the Amazon Kindle and the Nook from Barnes&Noble. But the iSlate, or Apple tablet, could be much more than just a digital book, it could be any magazine read, heard and viewed online.
Meanwhile, the Apple Investor is thinking which one of the following three videos could represent the final multimedia tablet. What do you think?

Not for me. I don't like the typing one letter at a time, I like a real computer and a real keyboard. What I don't get is, why not have a real keyboard? Years ago I had (still do, just don't use it now), a PDA with a cool folding keyboard that the PDA fit into. I would then sync it with my computer when I returned home. I used it alot when I did genealogy for others and once synced could email them the data and the info. I also like a big screen so the tiny tiny little phones aren't for me. I just recently got a nice new flat screen computer monitor that's easier to read and larger than my previous one.

Yes Sandy, but the tablet could have a touch keyboard mode that you can select from the tablet. Just put the keyboard down and type with both hands. The dimensions of the tablet seem pretty reasonable, so the keyboard buttons should be quite accessible. Besides, I think they might introduce a cool feature all smartphones have: hand writing recognition.
Just use a stylus to write down annotations and other stuff. Usually, I don't think the tablet will be like a pocket PC, more like a multimedia agenda with Internet access. We can definitely see a fine line in the future between e-book readers, smart phones and tablets. But desktop systems are pretty safe and irreplaceable, for now. :)
