Nexus One: not just another Android phone
January 7, 2010
Nexus One is the newest member of the Google Android family, manufactured by the Taiwanese smartphone company HTC Corporation, and released this week, on January 5th. The phone brings along plenty of interesting features to satisfy even the iPhone users, but the first thing that we notice about the latest Android smartphone is the curved, sleek design and the slim body – only 130g in weight and 119 mm x 59.8 mm x 11.5 mm in dimensions.
In terms of hardware, the phone comes with a 3.7 inch AMOLED display and a 800x480 resolution; a 5MP camera with auto-focus, digital zoom and LED flash; a memory of 512 MB DRAM; two microphones which help reduce background noise; a GPS receiver; Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi and Micro-USB connectivity. It's also worth mentioning the trackball, positioned below the four touchscreen buttons, which doesn't appear on the Droid, and which is able to give out different light colors, according to the type of notification received.
Regarding the software specifications, they match the ambitions of the hardware, Nexus One being the first phone to have as an operating system Android 2.1. The updated firmware version brings along fresh features, such as: the “Live Wallpapers” app which makes use of the 3D animation and the “Gallery” application, which gives the possibility to switch pictures by swiping your fingers (similar to iPhone).
To power all these Nexus One uses a removable 1400mAh battery, which lasts up to 290 hours on standby and 10 hours talk time. If you wonder about the price, here it comes: $529 unlocked and $179 with a two year contract with T-Mobile.
All in all, this is a good looking HTC smartphone with great Android features.
