Nexus One fails to surpass Droid in sales

Released on January 5th, the newest Android smartphone born from the Google - HTC alliance, didn't succeed to match its predecessor – Motorola Droid in sales. According to the market analytics firm Flurry, Nexus One has sold a mere 20,000 units in its first week, while Droid was bought by 250,000 customers in the same time frame. If we were to compare Nexus One with iPhone 3G S, than the difference is crushing, the latter succeeding to convince 1,600,000 customers.
Although, these numbers weren't yet confirmed by Google, they tend to reflect an unfortunate marketing strategy. If we take into consideration the distribution approach (Nexus One is sold via the Google website), the $529 price (unlocked), and the advertising campaign, which doesn't live up to Droid's legacy (remember the “I don't" commercial?), than the scarce sales aren't such a surprise.
