Mini smartphone versions star at MWC 2010
February 26, 2010
The Mobile World Congress 2010 took place last week between 15-18 February, in the beautiful city of Barcelona. As it was expected, the entire “creme de la creme” of the telecommunication industry was there starting with Juniper, Cisco, ORACLE, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, RIM, MOTOROLA, Google, Vodafone ...and many, many other top companies. A noticeable appearance at the MWC 2010 was the release of the Mini smartphone versions: LG Mini (GD880) and HTC HD Mini. These “Mini-Me” versions incorporate almost the same features as their bigger counterparts, at smaller prices.
HTC HD Mini
A shrank version of the HTC HD2, the Mini has 0.46 x 2.27 x 4.29 inches in size, 110 grams in weight, a 3.2 inch touch-screen and runs both WinMo 6.5 and HTC Sense OS. The HTC HD Mini also benefits from a 5 MP camera, an expandable memory of up to 32 GB, Wi-Fi, GPRS and 3G connectivity, and has as a browser Opera Mobile.
Said to be available starting April, 2010, HTC HD Mini is expected to be bought at a more or less $650 price. No official currier was announced yet.
LG Mini (GD880)
Announced at the MWC 2010, this Mini LG is said to be the first phone to support “LG's 3-Way Sync service”, which will give users the possibility to sync the data on their phones, PCs and browser over a wireless network. The official press release discloses that the LG Air Sync service is a “form of cloud computing so far available only on smartphones”, which will ensure “that contents such as photos, video clips, calendars and phone books can be updated and accessed at all times”.
Apart from this, the information on LG Mini is kind of scarce: the phone has a 3.2 inch touch-screen, a 5 MP camera (the same as HTC HD Mini), will benefit from Wi-FI connectivity, and it will incorporate a FM radio. In comparison to the curved and glossy body of the HTC HD Mini, LG Mini has a rougher design.
The phone will be available starting March, 2010, and until now no information was released on the price.
