Favorite PSP Games / Week 5

by Wendy Brighton  |  April 21, 2009

Week 5 transposes the passion for playing sports into three PSP games, filled with enthusiasm, strategy and competition. The PSP sports games succeed to imitate the actual games and to offer a realistic experience for the fans. All 3 games are sequels of well known games that have acquired fame along the years spent on the entertainment market.

The first PSP game of this week offers the player the opportunity to take part in one of the most popular entertainment activity in the world – known as soccer (for the Englishmen) or football.

FIFA 09

Developed by EA Canada and published by EA Sports in 2008, FIFA 09 succeeds to faithfully recreate the excitement of scoring a goal against the competing team.

The story line is the classical confrontation between two football teams only this time, the match can be played on rain, snow and at different moments of the day. The new animation effects have improved the game's fluidity and the way players interact with each other, for a more realistic gameplay. Also, the players are gifted with the possibility to express themselves, such as: celebrate a goal or become injured.

Said to have been improved in almost 250 aspects, FIFA 09 brings about a 360 degrees coverage of the player, which enables him to behave and play according to his physical characteristics. This feature triggers smoother actions, faster reactions and an impressive player speed.

Having good graphics and a rich collection of teams, FIFA 09 tries to preserve the real attributes of the actual players such as strengths or speed in a confrontation and their affiliation to a real team, as much as possible. In this way, the game offers the football fans the chance to play with their favorites and enjoy the taste of winning. The game is sold at a price of $30.

A lot different from the previous game, the second PSP game is here to satisfy the golf lovers:

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09

Published by EA Sports in August, 2008 the newest version of the Tiger Woods PGA Tours brings about small improvements which trigger big effects and transform  the PSP game into a solid golf experience. As a storyline, the game focuses on the performances of a player on a golf course.

An improvement from the 08 version is the more user friendly controls which help enhance the swings on the golf course. Moreover, the swings can also be improved, thanks to the “swing meter” which offers information on how much power goes into the motions.

The game succeeds to impress through a wide variety of courses set in different parts of the world (including South Africa) which look pretty good. Also, thanks to the good graphics, the environments take a lot after the real scenery, especially the water which has an almost realistic touch. Another plus of the game are the sound effects which are suitable for a golf course and don't disturb the player's concentration.

At a price of  $30, the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 game offers a realistic golf experience both to the fans and to the new comers and gives the player the possibility to achieve the performances of Tiger Woods.

The last game of this week presents one of the most popular games in the U.S.Abaseball.

MLB 09: The Show

The newest version of the MLB series was released in March, 2009 and was developed and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, also known as SCEA. The game is a baseball simulation which offers the player the possibility to control one or all the players from a Minor or a Major Baseball League team.

This newest version brings about more improvements in addition to the last ones which helps to transform MLB 09: The Show into a realistic experience. One improvement is the feature “Hotshot Fielding” which offers dynamic reactions and animations and enhanced bare - handed flips. The feature “Progressive Batting Performances” allows the player to improve or decline his abilities, according to how he plays. Moreover, the “Adaptive Pitching Intelligence” analyzes the strong and weak points of each pitcher and the dispositions of batters.

The improved graphics can show exactly how a pitch is thrown from the pitcher's hand in 17 different pitch modes. Even more, the interactions between players have improved and the sound effects are quite faithful to the sounds on a stadium and succeed to recreate the enthusiasm from a baseball game.

All the above features make the game more fun to play and closer to the real baseball experience. At a price of more or less of $30, the "MLB 09: The Show" allows the baseball fans to experience on their PSP the enthusiasm and excitement from the real-life baseball field.
