How to enjoy Skype on your PSP

by Brad Larson  |  April 6, 2009

Having a big screen allows Sony PSP to be, apart from a portable play station, a great media device. As a communicative tool, PSP can use Skype in order to call other Skype users, all via an Internet connection. In order to benefit from this application you need to have 2 major things: a Skype account on your PC and a Slim & Lite PSP or a PSP 3000. The owners of the “Fat & Heavy” PSP,  in its real name PSP 1000, can't benefit from this application, as their device doesn't have the memory needed.

Another minor requirement will be to have a microphone, in order to be able to communicate. On the PSP 3000 model this requirement is met, as it has a microphone incorporated; for the other model – PSP 2000 you have to buy the headset: “Sony PSP Slim & Lite Headset 2000” and the “Remote Control 2000”. After all these requirements are met, you should follow the steps:

1. Make a “Skype” account on your PC.
2. Buy some “Skype” credit using your PC.
3. Take your PSP.
4. Go into “Network” section.
5. Enter “Skype”.
6. Point the WI - FI connection, in order to connect.
7. Sign in by typing your “Username” and “Password”.
8. Go into “Contacts” and press “Right” or “X” to see who is online.
9. Press “Triangle” if you want to have more options: Call, Rename, Block, Remove.
10. Go into “Dial” if you want to call a land or mobile number.

Now you can successfully use your PSP to call people. To check your Skype credit from PSP just go into “Tools”, select “My Account” and then press “Skype Credit”.
