PSP Accessories / Part 1
by Joshua Mitchell | June 3, 2009
Although the accessories for a PSP are not as many and diverse as the iPhone accessories, they are widely present on the on line market and can be a great gift for a PSP fan. The major part of the PSP accessories have a practical purpose and not so much a decorative one. Attention! Because on the entertainment market today are three PSP models: PSP 1000, PSP 2000 (Slim &Lite) and PSP 3000 there will be accessories compatible with all three models and accessories which are specific only to one model.
The most important PSP accessory, is no doubt, the memory stick. Because, a bigger memory means more games, more music, more movies and more fun. The memory stick with the biggest memory capacity is the 4GB “Memory Stick PRO Duo”, which can store up to 6 movies and is compatible with all three PSP models. On "Best Buy" it can be bought at $25, made by Sony and at $20 made by SanDisk.
When it comes to cases there are three important types: Travel cases, UMD cases and Pouches. The Travel case is a hard type of case, made from plastic or thick material. The case allows to transport safely the PSP and more UMD disks and memory sticks, while traveling. The Sony Traveler Case is sold for $20 on "Amazon" or at "Best Buy". The UMD case is also a hard type of case which protects from dust and scratches the UMD disks. The UMD cases can be bigger or smaller, can have different prices and can store more or less disks. The PSP UMD Case from Sony can store up to 8 UMD disks and has a medium price of $14. In general the price of such an item depends on the material it is made of (which directly determines the durability and degree of protection) and on the storage capacity (how many UMD disk it can hold). The PSP pouches are soft type of cases which offer a medium degree of protection. The PSP is sold together with such a case.
An accessory which offers a minimum degree of protection is the “screen protector”. It protects the screen from dust and scratches. A minus would be the fact that some screen protectors can cut off visibility. A good screen protector must have an “antiglare” coating. Such an accessory requires a minimum investment. For example the “Screen Protector for PSP” from "Pelican Accessories" can be bought for $1 on "Best Buy".
Apart from being a great gaming tool, the PSP is also a media device. So, after protecting the PSP we need to buy a pair of headsets, which will allow us to listen to music or to the radio and also to benefit from the Skype application. Attention! Only the PSP 2000 and PSP 3000 allow this function. In order to learn exactly how to install Skype on the PSP check out the article: “How to enjoy skype on your PSP”.
Even if the PSP accessories range is not that big, there are some key accessories which can help us to fully benefit of our PSPs.
