iPhone accessories: lots and lots of Cases
by Robert Stevens | April 14, 2009
When it comes to cases the temptations are even greater and the difficulty of choosing one is even bigger than it was to buy “Headphones, Headsets and Earphones”, because there are more products on the market, with different models and in a multitude of colors – starting from the classical ones and ending with the most extravagant ones, such as fuchsia.
Before going shopping, it is important to bear in mind the fact that iPhone cases are divided between hard & soft cases. Some of the hard cases are: metal cases, plastic cases, hardskin cases, or hard shell cases. On the other hand, the soft cases are: textile cases, leather cases, silicone cases, “jacket” and “vest” cases.
Made to protect, the cases available now on the market are compatible with the iPhone and do not pose a threat even if they are not made by Apple. Nevertheless, when buying a case pay attention to the right openings for the iPhone ports (for example – the headphone jack and the camera). Also take into consideration the fact that a “Smart Case” is a thicker case, which offers more protection and if you are interested in buying a silicon case, be aware that in time it may get loose and may not adhere to the iPhone so well.
The first stop for finding the right case for the iPhone is the Apple Store. Under “Cases and Armbands” I found more than 120 models, from $15 and up to $140. The most expensive case was the “ H2O Audio Surge Waterproof...” case, which allows listening to music in the water. Other interesting and very functional cases are: the “WalletBook” case – which offers a multi storage pocket, “Speck CandyShell” case – which offers an extra protection thanks to its rubber interior, “Marware Sportsuit Convertible” case for the passionate runners, plus many other, interesting models. I have to admit, that as for color diversity, the color range in the Apple Store is not that big and tends to be conservative, except for the “Flower Vest” which offers an alternative.
On iPhoneCases.org I found an entire collection of cases, in more colors, presented according to the material from which they are made: silicon, leather, plastic, metal and textile. The only problem would be that you don't buy the cases from them, but they redirect you to Amazon or to Cases.com.
On Fabrix.com I found some well-done, handmade cases for different gadgets and for the iPhone too. The models are quite interesting (I particularly liked a very cheerful case – Sakura Garden Sleeve) and the prices start at $20. The inconvenience would be to wait a couple of days for the shipping.
So, no matter if you want to buy a case to protect or to embellish your iPhone, pay attention to the material the case is made of, because it will reflect its resistance and its durability in time.
