This Summer don't forget about iPhone Travel Applications

by Robert Stevens  |  August 12, 2009

Summer holiday is here again :) and so are the newest travel applications for your iPhone. In case you don't want to forget about the civilized world on a remote beach then, these applications may come in handy.

The first thing you need is to put all your travel information in one place so that you'll know exactly the addresses, the schedules, the itineraries, the reservations etc. and be able to easily access them. The application that does exactly this is the Travel Tracker.

The Travel Tracker is in fact an online service which is now available both for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This application helps you organize better all your travels. So, all you need to do is to send to plans@tripit.com all your travel info and you'll have in return a master itinerary which you can see, print and access from your iPhone. In addition you get info on weather, local maps, restaurants and much, much more. It's important to bare in mind the fact that Travel Tracker requires an OS 2.0 or above. This application is available on the iTunes Store for almost $8.

Now that you have in your iPhone all the pieces of information about your holiday, it wouldn't hurt to know, in case you are going outside U.S.A., the currency rate of that country. For $2 you can get the Currency Exchange Rates application. With this application you'll have access to up-to-date exchange rates on more than 130 currencies. The application works both on the iPhone and iPod Touch and requires an OS 2.0 or later.

Another option, this time for free, is the Currency application. This app offers updated exchange rates on 90 currencies from over 100 countries. The big plus is that the information is available in all the 18 languages supported by the iPhone.

On holiday, in a foreign country, apart from the problems posed by currency, you'll also have to face the language barriers. Such a difficulty can be surpassed easily if you have your iPhone with you and the QTranslator application. This application supports over 40 languages and leaves you the possibility to build your very own dictionary. If this isn't very helpful, you can either type a sentence and have it translated or look up in the predefined sentences. Even more, you can also check the correctness and semantics of the sentence. The QTranslator is available on iTunes Store for only $2.

So, by now you are almost ready to start your holiday. It will be wise to write in your iPhone that pieces of information which can identify you: passport no., driving license no. etc or simply take a photo of your ID and keep it safe in your phone. For security reasons set a code lock to your iPhone; if you don't know how to do it access this link: http://tuvabox.com/iPhone/how-to-lock-and-unlock-the-iphone.aspx.

Now you are definitely ready to start your long waited summer holiday :)
