Where can I buy may very own iPhone?

by Veronica Wu  |  March 30, 2009

Dear iPhone Addict,

If you wondered these days where you can buy your most beloved gadget - the iPhone, I must tell you that your journey starts now. At first, from the coziness of your chair, go online to the Apple site; there you’ll find out that the iPhone is available at the Apple Retail Store or at AT&T (which is Apple’s exclusive distributor). At the Apple Retail Store you’ll spend some time trying to figure out where is the “Buy” button, to find out in the end that in order to buy an iPhone you have to have / create an AT&T account – too much trouble.

So why not go directly to the AT&T site? Once you are there you’ll see that there is no trace of your I (phone, of course) but, there is still hope in the “Search” button. At last the iPhone appeared! At first, the 3G 16GB white - $299, then the 8GB black -$199, 16GB black - $299 and the 16 GB black refurb – $249. Here the challenge will be to choose a service plan - nation minutes or text messaging and the accessories. After all that, your beloved will be shipped to you, so all you have to do is wait.

The “hard way” will be to go online at the AT&T store, check the stores in your area, and go and buy it and enjoy it immediately. Another “hard” option will be to go and buy it from Wal-Mart. If you think you are not stylish enough – no problemo! The pink iPhone can be bought or can be customized at ColoWare.

Once you bought it, the new problem that arises will be to hack it or not and if yes, how? The problem of hacking the iPhone appeared as a result of the SIM lock; that means that the SIM can not be used on other mobile networks and it must be used only with the 3 service plans from AT&T. This issue generated quite a fuss worldwide. But there is still hope, as in some countries the iPhone is sold unlocked, as this is required by law (ex: Italy, Russia, Hong Kong etc. and more are to come).

On the Internet you can find more and more codes, softwares and even a video of how to do such a thing. It is up to you to trust them or not. Until the SIM lock problem will be solved one way or another, you should just enjoy your brand new, fashionable gadget, that is your “ I ”.
