The newest iPod: just Touch it!
by Veronica Wu | April 13, 2009
Launched on September 5, 2007 the newest arrival in the iPod Town, wants to be the best of its kind and even fun. With a 3.5 screen and a multi-touch interface, the latest iPod could be considered iPhone's little brother.
The first version of iPod Touch brings about major changes both in the features and in the aspect part, being similar more to an iPhone than to the classical iPod. One of the praised features is the 8 mm width, which makes the iPod Touch to be the thinest gadget ever made by Apple. Another improvement is the built in WI – FI, which offers the user a larger range of connectivity. This feature is doubled by the Safari Web Browser available for the first time on an iPod. Apart from being a music device, the Touch is also a video and a photo tool, offering to the user the possibility to see videos at a full aspect ratio and to share photos.
The 2G Touch comes with integrated volume controls, built in speakers and an accelerometer, enlarging the iPod's use areas. Wanting to be “the funnest iPod ever”, the Touch brings about a built in Apps Store which opens the door to lots and lots of games. For the NFS (Need for Speed) lovers it is important to mention that on the Touch is available the version – Need for Speed: Undercover, which will succeed to engross the players in the classical street racing.
An impressive technicality is the battery life that goes up to 36 hours listening to music and 64 hours watching videos. The available models on the market are 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB and of course 2G, which by far surpass iPhone's maximum capacity of only 16 GB, both for the original and for the 3G model.
For the runners, Apple maintains the partnership with Nike, also for the iPod Touch. So grab your Nike snikers and your iPod Nano or Touch and start running, while the sensor in the shoe will transmit information (such as: burned calories, distance, time ) towards your iPod.
I left the part which intrigued me the most towards the end because by now the comparison iPod Touch vs iPhone is one of the classics. Put face to face the 2 gadgets are very, very similar and if we study their functions, we'll see that their similarities are even bigger. Even Steve Jobs affirmed that the Touch was a “training wheels for the iPhone". So, what's the point in having almost 2 identical products on the market and why is it called iPod when it looks an awful lot like the iPhone - shouldn't it be called “Mini Me iPhone” ?
I do believe that to survive among the best brands in the world, one has to produce and to continue producing and if there is someone to buy your branded product, at some extent it just doesn't matter why. I definitely do not think that it is a matter of options for the buyers, and the endless comparisons and discussions - Touch vs. iPhone and iPhone vs. Touch - are just spicing up the things. In the end, no matter if you buy an iPhone or an iPod Touch you'll be having the same famous Apple logo to brag about.
